Ideal Weight Calculator

Enter your height and sex to estimate your ideal body weight using the Devine, Robinson and Miller formulas, alongside the healthy weight range based on BMI.

Where the formulas come from

Ideal body weight formulas were originally developed in medicine to help dose certain drugs. The Devine, Robinson and Miller equations each start from a base weight at five feet of height and add a set amount for every inch above that, differing slightly for men and women.

Because they disagree a little, showing several together — and averaging them — gives a more balanced estimate than relying on any single one.

A target range, not a single number

No formula can capture the right weight for every individual, because frame size, muscle mass and body composition all matter. That's why the calculator also shows the healthy BMI range for your height.

Use these figures as a sensible ballpark rather than a strict goal, and speak to a healthcare professional for personalised advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is my ideal weight?

Enter your height and sex above. The calculator shows estimates from three established formulas plus the healthy weight range from BMI, and averages the formulas for a single figure.

Which ideal weight formula is best?

There's no single best formula — Devine, Robinson and Miller all give slightly different results. Averaging them, and cross-checking with the healthy BMI range, gives a reasonable estimate.
