Cooking Measurement Converter

Convert cooking and liquid volumes between metric and US units — millilitres, litres, teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, fluid ounces, pints, quarts and gallons — for any recipe.

Why recipe conversions matter

Recipes from different countries use different units, and getting volumes right matters for baking especially. This converter uses US customary measures: a US cup is about 237 ml, a tablespoon is about 14.79 ml, and a teaspoon about 4.93 ml.

Note that the US cup (237 ml) differs from the metric cup (250 ml) used in Australia and elsewhere, so check which your recipe assumes.

Volume versus weight

This tool converts volume to volume. For dry ingredients, volume and weight aren't interchangeable because density varies — a cup of flour and a cup of sugar weigh different amounts. For the most reliable baking, a kitchen scale and weight measurements are best.
