Fuel Cost Calculator
Enter your trip distance, your vehicle's fuel economy and the fuel price to estimate how much fuel you'll use and what the journey will cost. Metric and imperial modes are supported.
How the trip cost is worked out
Fuel used is the distance divided by your fuel economy. Multiply that by the price per litre or gallon and you have the trip cost. For example, a 300 km trip at 12 km per litre uses 25 litres.
If your car's economy is quoted as litres per 100 km, switch to that mode — the calculator converts it for you. For miles per gallon, use the imperial mode.
Getting an accurate estimate
Real-world economy is usually a little worse than the manufacturer's figure, especially in city driving, with air-conditioning, or when carrying a load. For a return trip, double the distance.
If you split the cost between passengers, divide the result by the number of people sharing the ride.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?
Divide the distance by your fuel economy to get the fuel used, then multiply by the fuel price. Enter your figures above and the calculator does it instantly.
What's the difference between km/L and L/100km?
Both describe fuel economy. Kilometres per litre is distance per unit of fuel (higher is better); litres per 100 km is fuel per fixed distance (lower is better). The calculator supports both.
