Tip Calculator
Enter your bill, the tip percentage you'd like to leave, and how many people are splitting it. The calculator shows the tip, the grand total, and how much each person pays.
How to calculate a tip
A tip is a percentage of the bill before tax in many places. To find it, multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100 — a 15% tip on 80 is 80 × 0.15 = 12, for a total of 92.
Splitting is then just dividing the total by the number of people, which the calculator does for you so nobody has to do mental maths at the table.
How much should you tip?
Tipping customs vary widely by country. In the United States, 15–20% is typical for table service; in much of Europe and Asia a small tip or rounding up is normal, and in some countries tipping isn't expected at all.
When in doubt, check the local norm and whether a service charge has already been added to the bill.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a 15% tip?
Multiply the bill by 0.15. On an 80 bill that's a 12 tip. Enter your bill and 15 as the tip percentage above to see it split per person.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Conventionally the tip is based on the pre-tax bill, though many people simply tip on the total for convenience. Enter whichever figure you prefer.
